Sober Curious

You do not need a label to ask whether drinking still fits your life.

Sober Curious Therapy in Kerrville, TX

Maybe alcohol is woven into your weekends, dates, celebrations, or the way you unwind. You are not sure you have a “problem,” but you are tired of waking up anxious, making rules you break, or wondering who you would be without it. That question is worth exploring.

At Embracing Change Therapy, I offer sober curious therapy in Kerrville, TX, and virtually. You can talk honestly about drinking, try a change, and decide what kind of relationship with alcohol aligns with the life you want.

START WHERE YOU ARE

Do you feel like this?

  • You look forward to drinking and then regret how you feel afterward.

  • You set limits for yourself but keep negotiating them in the moment.

  • You wonder whether alcohol is helping you relax or making your anxiety worse.

  • You cannot picture socializing, dating, or celebrating without a drink.

  • You seem to be doing fine from the outside, so questioning your drinking feels hard to explain.

  • You are curious about a break from alcohol but worry what it would mean to call yourself sober.

You are allowed to be curious before you are certain.

What does “sober curious” mean?

Being sober curious means taking an honest look at the role alcohol plays in your life. It does not require a diagnosis, a public announcement, or a commitment to never drink again. For some people, curiosity leads to cutting back. For others, it leads to an alcohol-free life or to realizing they need more support than they expected.

We can explore the question without deciding the answer in advance. We will also be candid about health and safety when those concerns arise.

MEETING YOU WHERE YOU ARE

Your path does not have to look like anyone else’s

  • Explore
We look at your patterns and what you want more of in your life.

  • Experiment
You might choose a period without alcohol or a specific change in how you drink. We can plan for situations that make the experiment difficult.

  • Evaluate
We look at what changed in your mood, sleep, relationships, and sense of control. If cutting back is not working, we can talk openly about other options.

  • Build
Whether your goal is abstinence or a different relationship with alcohol, we focus on a life that feels more congruent with your values.

A LITTLE ABOUT ME

You don't have to figure this out alone.

I am Season Yerasimides, an LPC-Associate and fully licensed Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) with a master’s degree in counseling and a specialty in addiction.

I have questioned my own relationship with alcohol, so I understand that curiosity can bring up more than a simple yes-or-no answer.

My style is direct, supportive, and judgment-free. I will not push you into an identity or minimize the patterns you want to examine. We can be honest about the costs of drinking while helping you choose what comes next for yourself.

  • Do I have to call myself an alcoholic to come in?

No. You can seek therapy because you want to understand your drinking or change it, without choosing a label.

  • Do I have to quit forever?

No promise is required to begin. We can clarify your goals and revisit them as you learn more about what works and what does not.

  • What if I just want to drink less?

We can explore a reduction goal and make it specific. If you have tried to cut back repeatedly and cannot, we can talk honestly about what that means for your next step.

  • Can I take a break from alcohol without making an announcement?

Yes. We can plan responses to social questions and decide whom, if anyone, you want to tell.

  • Is it safe for me to stop drinking suddenly?

If you drink heavily or may be physically dependent, talk with a medical professional before stopping abruptly. Alcohol withdrawal can be dangerous; outpatient counseling is not medical withdrawal care.

  • Are sessions virtual, and what do they cost?

I offer in-person sessions in Austin and virtual appointments. Sessions are $150, and I do not take insurance. I offer a free 15-minute consultation.
